Our Update group is a new venture for 2011. Aimed at teenagers aged 14 and up, it's a group designed to provide a place for discussion and encouragement as we all battle with the challenges of living our lives for God.
There never seems enough time to get the bottom of life's 'big questions'. The Youth Group gives everyone the opportunity to raise questions about the Bible, God and anything else which is challenging or confusing.
It's easy to feel worn out and discouraged - whether it's the stress of exams, work or family life, the Youth Group provides a space for encouragement.
God has given us the gift of prayer so that we can ask Him directly to deal with problems and issues that we face in our lives. It's a great encouragement to be able to pray for each other and see how God answers those prayers together.
Life is a challenge, particularly as a young Christian. But Jesus challenges us to live lives which are different from those of our non-Christian friends and family - to stand for different values. The Youth Group gives us the opportunity to challenge each other to live our lives in line with God's plans and directions through practical application of Biblical principles.
We're currently working through a series of Bible based discussion topics.
Meetings run by one of the 6 leaders and there will usually be 2 or 3 leaders at each meeting. Exactly how the meeting is run will vary, but each will include a time of sharing and prayer, discussion about the particular topic with reference to Biblical teaching about the topic and some kind of acitivity such as a game, quiz or challenge.
The venue changes each week, but will either be at Phil and Dee Dacre's or Richard and Carol Fewlass's houses in Sleights, or at Jack and Megan Barber's house in Whitby.
We start at 7.30pm and usually finish around 9pm.
