Onomy

Hello, welcome to Onomy’s section of the website. We regularly update and add to the site, so keep checking it out for the latest news, films and photos. We hope you find what you need, and don’t hesitate to contact us if you want.

When is Onomy?

Our group meets every other Saturday afternoon from 1.30pm - 5pm. Children are asked to arrive before 1.30 so that we can start as close to 1.30 as possible. We have a programme every 6 months with all the dates and themes on. Contact Rachel (228314) if you would like a programme. We have a summer camp every year and also several special events througout the year, often for the whole family.

Who can go to Onomy?

Our group is currently for boys and girls aged 7 - 12. The aim is that when we have more leaders we can divide the group and have a younger group for 5 - 8 year olds and a middle group for 9 - 11 year olds and also a teenager group for 12 - 14’s.

Being a member

As of November this 2011 children can be Onomy Whitby members. Many children have signed up already. Membership means there is simply an annual fee of £30 per child (3rd child in same family free) which includes all afternoons (average of 20 per year at 3.5 hours each time). This year however, as it is the first year of membership any child that signs up gets the new uniform hoody free, normally a cost of £15! It's well worth being a member. If you haven't received a form and would like to sign up just contact Rachel on 228314. Non members are of course more than welcome to still come along, the cost is then £2 per afternoon.

A typical Onomy afternoon...

An Onomy afternoon generally starts with some great songs, news and welcome etc... before hearing a Bible story or Christian input and then venturing out for the afternoon activity. Depending on where we are off to, we may leave straight away and sometimes have the story when out and about. Unless you are otherwise informed, we walk to our destination, be it the nearby forest, beach or field etc... The group will start and finish the afternoons at Eskdale school (meet in the entrance hall), unless specified otherwise. A yummy snack and a drink are always part of the programme.

Clothing

We go out in just about all weathers, so please make sure you wear suitable clothing to Onomy and are always prepared to spend time outside. Good strong shoes (or wellies) and a warm, waterproof jacket are necessary, especially during autumn and winter.

The Onomy Organisation

Onomy is the British branch of a successful European organisation who seeks to offer children something that is rarely found elsewhere today; adventurous activities, at a minimum cost.  Whether it’s a summer camp, a Saturday afternoon group, special Christmas event or a training course for leaders, Onomy addresses heads, hands, hearts and habits.  The Onomy organisation coaches teams while they establish groups, based in churches.  Children, teenagers and leaders learn new skills, gain knowledge, and have fun through experience-orientated activities.
